Welcome to our Farm’s
Website.
We are Chris and Danielle Bove and we'd like to
thank you for stopping by and paying our farm a "virtual visit."
We’ve assembled a wealth of information about us,
our farm, as well as the animals we raise, breed and care for.
Additionally, we've included a bounty of photos so
you too can share in our farm life and times.
From our wonderful animals, to our impeccably grown
produce, to our Exclusive Grillin’ Spice, we’re sure you’ll enjoy your visit.
In 2006 we became an Authorized Dealer for the
Udderly EZ Milker™ and have been promoted to Authorized Distributor effective February
2007, thanks to our high sales volume and customer satisfaction. We ship
WORLDWIDE and are proud to offer this product line at attractive prices. In
2008, we also began offering banding equipment from our Stone line of quality
products. In 2010 we began offering Tattooing Equipment and Supplies!
Please contact us if you have any questions or
comments, or if you wish to inquire about purchasing any of our livestock, our
Exclusive Avolino Farm Grillin’ Spice, the Udderly EZ Milker™ or other products
offered on this site.
We have traditionally had the largest breeding herd
of 100% Health Tested, High Quality Dual Registered Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats
in Maryland, on the Delmarva Peninsula and in the Mid-Atlantic Region. We have
scaled back our herd's size in anticipation of becoming parents. We have been
raising miniature goats for 11 years; Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats exclusively
for 7 years.
Our Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goat herd’s foundation
stock comes from some of the highest quality bloodlines available. We've had
one resident National Champion (NDGA) and one resident National Reserve Grand
Champion (AGS) and over the years about one quarter of our herd has been a
product of a Grand Champion Sire and/or Dam. To date, five of our Senior Does have
earned their *D (AGS Milk Star) designation for milk test performance. And,
nine of our bucks and 16 of our does' dams have earned their *D (AGS Milk Star)
for milk test performance. We have yet to participate in official DHI milk
test, but we do milk our does and keep unofficial records. While our work schedules, family
commitments, and unpredictable life events have not allowed us to show for a
couple of years, we returned to the show ring in May & June 2010 and hope
to pursue future show opportunities as our desire and our schedule
permits.
All our breeding decisions are made thoughtfully
and reflect the considerable amount of time we have invested in researching the
genetics of the Nigerian Dwarf herd book. We routinely consult with other well-respected
breeders, both past and present, to explore breeding opportunities-- studying
and discussing which genetics produce promising line breeds and out crosses. We
host visitors interested in learning more about goat keeping, about the
Nigerian Dwarf breed, and about our herd each Saturday and Sunday in Spring,
Summer, and Autumn. Feel free to email us to set an appointment for a farm
visit. During the warmer weather months, our calendar fills up fast, so we
request a week or two notice so that we can schedule and accommodate your
visit.
Farm Visits will be abbreviated and limited in 2012-
see our "Goat Herd" web page for more details.
Avolino Farm was honored to be asked by the
University of Maryland’s Cooperative Extension Service to allow a photo of our
doe, Flat Rocks Emma, to be included in their quarterly small ruminant
newsletter "Wild & Wooly" as an exemplar of a Nigerian Dwarf
Dairy Goat for their spotlight article on the breed.
